Furniture (1993–2005) – Mirrors and Consoles
Beatriz Millar’s collection of mirrors and consoles originates in drawing and geometric construction.
The mirrors are made up of multiple geometric segments arranged in convex configurations. The consoles represent their horizontal counterpart, as if the same structure were rotated. Vertical and horizontal elements establish a formal dialogue between reflection and support.
Each model is defined by clear and recognizable contours:
- Spider — a graphic web structure
- Zig-Zag — a broken, dynamic line
- Rubin — a crystalline volume
- Narciso — four heart shapes integrated into a single structure
Lacquered, polished surfaces emphasize color as a structural component:
- Red (Rubin, Narciso) — associated with vitality
- Green (Harem) — linked to energy
- Blue (Zaffiro) — depth and intensity
- White (Zig-Zag) — light
- Black (Spider) — strength
In the work White and Black is Red, the collection expands into a conceptual ensemble comprising two chairs—one white, one black—and a four-legged table. The backs of the chairs function structurally as the base of the table, creating a formal interdependence.
The juxtaposition of black and white generates red within a philosophical proposition that exceeds chromatic theory. Red is positioned as a direct, uncompromising sign of life.
